Mike
Leaty has been around NASCAR auto racing his whole life. From 1996-1999
he worked as a mechanic on his fathers Featherlite Modified, where he
had a lot of fun and learned a lot. Before that Mike raced a go-cart at
a couple local tracks and brought home a track championship at the age
of 12.
In
2000, Mike started racing a street stock. He had a good rookie year
winning one feature, finishing in the top ten in points and followed
that up the next season by winning three features, and missing the
season championship by only a few points.
The 2002
season was the most challenging yet as Mike moved up into Spencer’s
feature division, the Nascar Modifieds. He did very well, winning one
feature event and finishing 5th in the final points standings. The 2006
and 2007 seasons were Mikes most successful yet as he was able to win
back to back track championships at Spencer Speedway. Mikes success in
a racecar has come very quickly and at age 29 he is already in the top
15 on the Spencer Speedway career modified feature win list. He has also
moved his MPL Motorsports team up to the ultra competitive Dart RoC
Modified Tour and won his first ever series race, the Richie Evans
Memorial 100 at Oswego Speedway. This season will be very exciting as
Mike and his team competes for more Race of Champions Tour wins and the
Championship.
