Mike Leaty Announces 2009 Schedule The Race of Champions (RoC) Tour, the most prestigious asphalt Modified series, visits five New York State speedways for a total of nine races in 2009. The RoC Tour will make stops at Dunn Tire Raceway Park (formerly known as Lancaster Speedway) in Lancaster, NY; Oswego Speedway in Oswego, New York; Wyoming County International Speedway located in Perry, New York; Spender Speedway located in Williamson, New York; and Chemung Speedrome in Waverly, New York. The MPL Motorsports Modified will participate in the entire tour, with the ultimate goal of winning the overall RoC Championship. "It is going to be a fun season following the RoC Tour this year" said Mike Leaty. "I think Andrew Harpell has put together a great series that allows us the opportunity to race with the best in the business. The way things are shaping up this year we should have a strong field of cars at every race and I know this MPL Motorsports team is capable of winning anywhere we go. We finished 2008 on a high note and I expect that to carry right into 2009." In addition to running the RoC Tour, Leaty and the #25 US Army Modified will run a yet to be determined number of weekly 50 lap Modified races at Dunn Tire Raceway Park. As the "Western New York Home of the Asphalt Modified", Dunn Tire Raceway Park will allow MPL Motorsports to fill out the rest of their 2009 schedule. "DTRP has been a huge supporter of the Modified division as of late" said Leaty. "They have put up a nice schedule of races for 2009 and we look forward to making a few appearances there this year whenever our RoC Tour and personal schedules allow it to happen." In 2009 Mike Leaty and his #25 MPL Motorsports Team welcome back the team’s primary sponsor - the US Army. Coming aboard last season, the US Army has once again committed to Leaty and his championship team. With the US Army’s support, Leaty captured two feature wins, five top five finishes, and seven top ten finishes in thirteen starts. The US Army joins major associate sponsors Rochester Steel Treating on the #25 Modified. In addition Northeast Industrial Technologies returns as an associate sponsor for the team. "2009 has certainly been a year of economic downturn thus far" said Leaty. "I am proud that MPL Motorsports has its entire lineup of sponsors returning to the team despite this fact. I think it shows the kind of support and dedication that is behind this winning team. The US Army came on board last year and has been a great sponsor for us. I think we will continue to build on that relationship we have started and you will see the Army representatives at more races in 2009. Rochester Steel Treating has been a longtime sponsor of MPL motorsports dating back to 2002. Without there support we probably wouldn’t be where we are today. Lastly, Northeast Industrial Technologies came on board two years ago and they have been huge supporters of the team as well. If it weren’t for all of these people, we would not be able to make it to the track." Highlights of the 2008 season included two wins at Spencer Speedway and leading over forty laps and nearly winning at the Race of Champions event in Oswego in September which is easily the most prestigious race of the season. In addition the #25 team won the Gater Racing News "Best Appearing Car & Crew" Award at the same event. For 2009 the MPL Motorsports team will also receive product support from: Wilwood Brakes, VP Racing Fuel, Dash Racewear, Pro Shocks, Troyer Racecars, F/A Products, Bob Bruneau Engine Research, Mr. Auto/Parts Plus, and PED Racing Products. Leaty, a native of Williamson, NY, has over 100 career NASCAR Modified starts and 13 victories.
