RoC Race Report from Wyoming County Speedway
This past weekend we were supposed to race Friday night at Spencer
Speedway and Sunday afternoon at Wyoming County Speedway. Our schedule got
quite a bit easier when Friday night was rained out. We got the car all
switched over and ready for WCIS Sunday.I had
never raced at WCIS in a modified before so practice was important. The
car was better than me at first, a little tight but my dad and I compared
notes and got a really good set-up in the car for the heat. I started the
heat in the 4th position and wound up finishing third. This put us in the
re-draw for the 75 lap feature.
I drew the number 8 chip and started the feature
there. We wanted to have a good strong run and bring the car home in one
piece. For never being at the track before, we ran really strong in the
top 10 the entire race. The car was a little loose the entire race and it
was tough to get the power to the ground but we were running strong. When
the white flag flew I was still in the 8th position and got a run under
the car in 7th. Unfortunately, I made a silly mistake and got into the
side of him getting into turn 3 and ran us both up that track. This put us
way back to a 15th place finish.
The sun was setting and made it really hard to see
in that turn which didn’t help the situation but that does not hide the
fact that I should have settled for a good strong 8th place finish and
gone home. It is disappointing to never run outside the top 10 and then
finish 15th because of a last lap mistake, especially because my crew did
such a good job for me all weekend. The good news is that the Wayne
Regional Orthopaedics/Rochester Steel Treating car is in one piece and
ready for Spencer Speedway this Friday night. -Mike Leaty
